A place to work, meet and make things.

Vallila · Helsinki

What is ODDspace

A co-creative space for people who make things.

ODDspace is a workspace and event space in Vallila for people working across art, culture, design, media, technology, business and other creative fields. Under one roof there are places to work, meet, record, exhibit, talk and host events. The point is not only to share square metres, but to make it easier for different kinds of work and people to cross paths. It is still a pilot, and the people using it help shape what it becomes.

Come here to work. Meet people. Host something. Make something. Or simply have somewhere to keep going between projects.

Co-creative space

Working next to each other is useful. Working with each other is the point.

ODDspace is designed so people can do their own work without being forced into “community”, while making collaboration unusually easy when it is useful. Different practices share the same rooms; work in progress can be shown, questions can be asked, someone can be pulled into a project, and an idea can turn into an event or collaboration. By co-creative, we mean a place where independent work and shared making can exist side by side.

Beyond the desks

The network should be bigger than the room.

Not everyone who should be part of ODDspace needs a permanent desk. The wider network around the space can include people who come through events, projects, collaborations and open sessions — people who want to stay close to what is happening and contribute when there is a reason to. The physical space is the anchor. It should not be the boundary.

Who it's for

Different practices. Same roof — and a wider network around it.

ODDspace is for people working across art, design, music, media, writing, production, entrepreneurship, technology, research and other creative practices. Some use the space day to day. Others can come through events, projects and collaborations. You do not need to fit one professional label. The useful part is having enough overlap for conversations, shared work and new ideas to start.

Why ODDspace

Creative work needs somewhere to continue.

Too much creative work starts and stops with individual projects, productions and funding cycles. A place cannot solve that on its own, but it can change the rhythm: somewhere people can return to, keep working, see the same faces again and let ideas develop for longer than one project. ODDspace is our current experiment in that. The bigger question is what kind of permanent, useful infrastructure Finland could build around its creative and cultural fields over time.
